What? I haven't written a review of this place yet? How on earth did this happen? I've been going to Java Jo's for nearly 4 years, and I came here to update my review... to downgrade it, actually. However, it turned out I hadn't written one already... so here goes: Java Jo's was wonderful. Was. There is a reason I've been going there for 4 years. It's a great, fast, friendly place to get a decent latte at 6 AM. I work very early, so Java Jo's means a lot to me, and is probably largely responsible for my career seeing as I would have been fired long ago without their caffeinated help. A month ago, they would have gotten 5 stars. However, they changed something. The beans, the roast, something... and it just is not good anymore. At first, I thought it was me - I switched to soy - but alas, it's not that. Also, there is one guy who always gets something wrong... (gave me an iced latte... in the middle of a snowstorm? I didn't ask for iced. WTF??? Stuff like this happens with him all the time.) so if you're there and ordering from a tall, thin, red-haired guy, make sure you check your order before you leave. He's been there for a while, but the iced latte incident was the "straw the broke the camel's back" in many ways. I plan on going back in a bit... but I'm officially taking a break from my #1 commute coffee joint. Maybe they'll fix whatever the problem is in the meantime, in which case I'll update this review and write about all the other wonderful things about them like how great the rest of the staff is, especially Alex and Emily, who never get my order wrong! Until then, I'll be hunting for a different place as I'm tired of paying for bad lattes... as much as that pains me, because I really really really really liked Java Jo's before it went south recently.

Very smooth and mellow coffee with no bitterness plus very friendly service. I've been a regular for years and they know what I want as I am driving up and have it ready in no time. I love that they use local products too. Best place in town for coffee. They have two other locations I visit occasionally as well and the coffee is consistently good wherever I go.

I've been going to the Java Jo's in the avenues for years so I decided it's time I finally write a review of one of my favorite coffee places. I love it because it's close to home, super quick, and the the coffee is delicious. Oh and the staff is awesome.

This place competes with the Einstein Bros Bagels down the block, and I hope that they drive the EBB out of business. What a great idea--devote the small lot to a few drive-through spaces and serve morning necessities ouf of a tiny shack. Actually, one lane is carhop service and one lane is drive-through. I'm checking "Yes" for "Wheelchair Accessible" because, presumably, you could roll your chair right up to the window, but this place sits on a hill, so be careful. I don't drink coffee, but I got a smoothie and a muffin here to complement my wretched bagel sandwich from Einstein Bros. Super-fast service--I waited less than two minutes even with two cars in front of me, and my smoothie was ready before I had finished paying. I wanted a scone, but they had only pumpkin left by 9 am on a Sunday. Get there early for scones! The smoothie was good, slightly too sweet, but they let me order a strawberry-banana version even though that combination isn't on the official menu. The muffin (blueberry) wasn't that great, but oh well. Nice, friendly people here too. Support small, independent businesses with personality!

Java Jo's starts my day almost every weekday, and has done so almost every weekday for the past 6 years. It's billed as a drive-in, but for us, it's a great walk-in.

They've got the drive-thru coffee thing down PAT. I was in and out of there in like 30 seconds flat. I'm pretty sure I could have just rolled past the window without ever hitting the brakes and still gotten my coffee, no problem. Normally I'm not a fan of frozen coffee drinks, but it was a hot day and the Frozen Jo came highly recommended. Simple, smooth and not too sweet-- very nice. $4 for a small seemed a little steep, but it's The Avenues, I guess. I did appreciate the chocolate coffee bean on top. It was a nice little caffeinated touch.

This place rocks! Great, friendly staff...best way to get your morning started if you're stuck in a car for a bit.

Me likey! Java Jo's has the best coffee in town. My lady friend, who is from out of the state, didn't believe me when I told her how great it was. Now that she lives here, we get one every morning and two a day when possible. It's a sick obsession and will probably drive me to the poor house, but I will be happy on my way there. I've been going there for about 3 1/2 years now and hate going on vacation because I just can't get my Jo's.

The consistent good service keeps me coming back. I usually avoid drive in's at all cost, but enjoy getting my coffee at this tiny shack before jumping on the freeway. They are fast and the coffee is good. Even if there are 4 cars on each side of the shack I will stop. It is much more than a convenience.

Bonus for the location and ease of access, but gotta knock them on quality. Mocha had an oily aftertaste and cheap powdered chocolate mix was suspected. Suspicions confirmed when I got to the bottom 1/4 of the cup and met a nigh undrinkable, chalky sludge of cheap, cloyingly sweet cocoa mix flavor. Prices are a bit lower than you'd expect, but I'd pay another 50¢ gladly for some real chocolate syrup that actually mixed welll. Hot chocolate is made with water and powdered mix. Wife's latte was average.

I love these guys! Their iced tees and coffees are the best. Try enchantment or iced mint tea with a stevia.

Love this little place, their hazelnut iced coffee is amazing. The staff is also friendly and provides pretty speedy service.

The coffee drinks are good but wish the espresso drinks had a bit more espresso flavor. The espresso flavor gets a little lost if you order any drinks with flavored syrups. The flavored drinks are a little too sweet for my taste so I typically stick to ordering an Americano. I do wish they had better pastry options and in my opinion they are worth passing on. It's a convenient place to stop for coffee because it's a drive through. Service is typically friendly and drink orders delivered promptly. I do enjoy the complimentary chocolate covered espresso bean that accompanies my order!

The reason I first came to Java Jo's is because they're open when I need coffee. The reason I keep coming back is because their drinks are consistent regardless of who is making it. Equally as nice are the baristas that are smiling and appear happy to be there. It wouldn't be surprising to pull up and notice a few cars parked waiting for a drink but they are pretty quick so the line doesn't last for too long.

This is my go to coffee shop. The location is amazing, I can walk here from my house. I always ALWAYS get the white rabbit (preferably iced). It's not on their menu but everyone has to try it, there's a hint of raspberry and it's not too sweet...very refreshing! The baristas are super nice and friendly here, they don't rush you or look annoyed if you're taking a little longer to order. I also love the convenience of the drive thrus because there are some days where I don't want to walk in a Coffee shop in my PJs.

I was skeptical of Java Jo's at first. I don't know why. Probably just because I didn't think something so delicious could come out of a place so tiny. I was wrong. Dead wrong! What really made me want to write a review was, because of what happened earlier today; a friend and I went to the Java Jo's on 9th East across from Wal-Mart. A newer employee, "Emma", had only seen us ONE time before... and guess what? She remembered what we ordered. She remembered our freaking orders...after seeing us ONE TIME!!! OMG. Amazing. Their Frozen Salted Caramel is THE BEST I've ever had. Get it with or without white chocolate... you won't be disappointed.

Perhaps my favorite thing about The Kramer (the surgary, delicious drink I get every time I stop by Java Jo's) is the chocolate covered coffee bean they put on the lid of the drink they hand me. The staff is always fast and friendly. If I'm going to overpay for a sugary coffee drink, it's gotta be Java Jo's!

I go to the Java Joe's in Cottonwood Heights. The drinks are consistently most excellent!!! I have friends and relatives from out-of-state who come to Utah more for Java Joe's drinks/coffee than for friends and relatives. I just won't move further away than a mile :-) A shout out to Billie who is such a joy ... but I've never had bad service.

Stumbled across this place because I was trying to find Red Butte Creek and instead it said that this place was over Red Butte Creek. I didn't mind the fact that we got lost because this place is pretty neat! The employees were very kind and helpful and I ended up getting a salted something... I forget the name. It was very delicious! If I lived in the area this place would be my go-to place for a nice little coffee date.

for drive up coffee, this is the best place in SLC. Two lanes and room for 6 cars, their service is friendly and the coffee is great and very consistent.

I used to frequent the Java Jo's on 13th E, but ever since I moved, the Avenues location has just been more convenient. I only ever get one drink at Java Jo's - the Ivory Mocha with low fat milk, light ice. There are a couple baristas here who know my drink order and make it good consistently (Side-bar, service here is great! They are always friendly, and run out to your car if you end up in that 2nd lane). I don't know if they have been hiring/training recently, but the consistency has definitely gone down. One time, my drink was so sweet I almost gagged, and had to water it down with coffee when I got to work - coffee that I had to PAY FOR, UGH. Another time, my drink came and I swear it was all milk. The color usually looks like a toasted graham cracker, but instead came out looking like beige cardstock. The problem with a drive-through place is that by the time I get to sip my drink, I'm already a couple blocks down, booking it to work. U-turning at that point and forcing the poor noob to fix my drink would be just too much work. I just wish they would be able to set down standards for anyone new they hired - it's been to the point where I'm kind of scared to taste my drink because I'm already wondering which barista made it. I loved this place but you could say Java Jo and I are "on a break", Ross-Rachel style. 08/21/15 edit: P.s. - Java Jo and I are back on

Best coffee in SLC! Can't even make home brew anymore. Americanos are the best. Friendly staff.

I always get the frozen mocha. It's not bitter, with a good sweet flavor. The customer service is great. Best coffee shop around.

Frozen Chai! I don't even like Chai. Its like crack for coffee drinkers on a hot day. Seriously. Drivethru only at ALL Java Jo's. Oh, I love it, they give you a coffee bean with your drink.

Excellent drive-thru coffee. Busy between 7-9 but the line moves quickly. The baristas are always friendly. The espresso is good, as are the flavored coffee drinks. Cheaper and better than Starbucks, though that's not saying much.

The coffee drinks are excellent. My problem with this business is the way customers are treated as just another car to serve. This came home to me the other day after I stopped by Starbucks and could contrast how they treat me as opposed to Java Jo's. I had been going to Java Jo's for over two years on a near daily basis, seeing the same employees each morning at 8 AM. You would think that, after two years of daily contact, they could remember something about me (e.g., my name, my drink, or the fact that I always order it with "bean, sleeve, no straw"). But no, they still have to ask me every day what I want, how I want it, and are still clueless as to my name. During this same two year time frame, I would stop by my previous regular Starbucks probably once every couple of weeks. They always still knew my name and favorite drink. Finally, one day, it dawned on me, "Why in the world am I continuing to give my money to a business with employees as obtuse as Java Jo's." I decided to return to where I'm viewed as a person with an identity instead of as a car with a fungible person inside.
